New Year, New You
Imagining the best that 2026 has to offer
It makes sense that people make new year resolutions. It’s a time of renewal. We just celebrated the lengthening of days in the northern hemisphere. Light really is returning, and not just metaphorically. But what would it look like for the resolutions to stick this time? What would a great 2026 really be like?
We teach a practice of systemic leadership that asks you to think differently about the way that you relate to the world. We ask you to consider that everything is interconnected. Always. It’s a feature of the universe we can’t get out of, even if we try. This means that your resolutions do and will have an impact on those around you. And it means that those around you impact you. Nothing is entirely your fault—even if you think pushing yourself harder is the way to go. There are always a group of influencing factors, so flexibility is just as important as resistance.
Consider these few concepts as we move into 2026.
Even the smallest acts have big impact. You going to the gym more might reduce your stress, eventually leading to greater insight and more ability to collaborate with your stressful boss. Try relaxing back and trusting in the small changes that are in your control.
Harsh, punitive systems run out of steam. Since everything is interconnected in some way, trying to push something away, blocking someone or something, or forcing change through punishment eventually fails. Living things respond to love and care. Resolve to find what gives you hope that you can share.
There’s power in the in-between. Removing the connection between two things can be the most effective way to change them. We make associations between people, actions, or events based on past experience. But, things are always changing and people are multifaceted. Sometimes realizing that two things don’t always have to go together is the most powerful way to make a change.
